Discipleship Mobilisation Intensive

Eight weeks of training, not teaching. You learn a skill by doing it with other people beside you, then you go and do it with someone else.

Why it exists

One in a hundred Christians will make a disciple

Most of us have heard enough. Hearing gives you information; doing it, with reps and a training buddy, gives you a skill. DMI is built around that difference.

  1. 5%Hear

What you keep from being told something.

  2. 10%Hear and see

What you keep when it is shown to you as well.

  3. 30%Discuss

What you keep when you have to talk it through.

  4. 95%Teach

What you keep when you have to pass it on to someone else.

The goal

Be with Jesus. Become like Jesus. Do what Jesus does.

Three goals of a disciple, and the shape of the eight weeks.

Mark 3:14

Be with Jesus

Abiding, and what it actually looks like day to day — top ups and fill ups, the five stages from choosing other things to the mind of Christ.

Luke 6:40

Become like Jesus

Training rather than trying: doing what you can do by direct effort, so you can do what you cannot by direct effort.

Matthew 4:19

Do what Jesus does

The pattern of Luke 10 — go two by two, pray, heal the sick, proclaim the kingdom, and look for the person of peace.

What it covers

Eight weeks, in order

Each week has a session, something to practise before the next one, and a training buddy who is doing the same.

  1. 01

    Teaching vs training

Information or skill. Why reps and a training buddy change what you keep.

  2. 02

    Eternal perspective

Ecclesiastes 3:11. How much of your life is complete, and how much eternity factors into what you do next.

  3. 03

    Christian and disciple

Luke 14:25-27. The crowd admires Jesus; a disciple follows Him and pays the cost.

  4. 04

    Why abide

John 15:4-5. Answered prayer, fruit, inner peace, joy, imitating Christ, no fear, grace over sin.

  5. 05

    Mission trip

You go. Everything from the first four weeks gets used on real people in a real place.

  6. 06

    Training vs trying

Luke 6:40 and Matthew 7:24. Becoming more loving as something you train for, not something you strain at.

  7. 07

    Person of peace

Luke 10:1-9. Stay rather than invite, integration wins the house, and why we invest in the few.

  8. 08

    Rule of life

Living with intention. GRIP — giving, rest, integration, prayer — so this lasts past week eight.

On the ground

What eight weeks looks like

How we train

Model. Assist. Watch. Launch.

The pattern scripture gives us for raising leaders. We do not hand you notes and hope.

  1. MModel

We do it first, in front of you.

  2. AAssist

You do it, we help and give feedback.

  3. WWatch

You do it, we watch and coach.

  4. LLaunch

You lead it in its entirety, and train someone else.
